Description:JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Director is a hospice physician who plans, develops, coordinates, monitors and ensures palliative care standards for hospice patients. This is accomplished by collaboration with the hospice team and the community physicians. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Complies with Hospice Statute FS 400.605 and Agency for Health Care Administration Rule 58A-2.014 Medical Direction as attached as Amendment A. • Documents physical exams and clinical observations in a timely manner and appropriate format to ensure compliance. • Provides consultative services to referring physicians, as appropriate for problems/issues in the palliative care of their patients. • Provides primary hospice care to Hospice patients with no local physician or referred for such care by local physicians, if appropriate. • Complies with all CFR Section 1306.11 Requirements as they relate to Hospice. (See Attachment B) • Provides such requested care to Hospice patients in their homes, in nursing homes, ALF’s, in local hospitals, or at Hospice's facilities. • Provides on-call coverage two days per week of which one two day period/per month will be a weekend. • Provides for 24-hour on-call coverage for primary patients or arranges appropriate back-up coverage. • Provides agency back-up call with assistance of Medical Directors and/or Sr. Medical Director's designee. • Maintains active hospital consulting privileges, but arranges admitting coverage for primary patients needing hospitalization when appropriate. • Attends IDT consistently as Team Medical Director. • Participates in Team meetings with general educational discussions of relevant topics. • Reviews patient charts when needed for purposes of educational discussions or regulatory issues. • Provides formal educational presentations to clinical staff on a regular basis. • Attends Medical Staff Meeting for Family Practice at Hospital monthly when schedule permits. • Maintains membership in Marion County Medical Society. (Meets 8-9 times per year, dues to be paid by HMC.) • Obtains Certification by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care Physicians within six months of completion of clinical eligible hours to be paid by HMC. • Fosters referral patterns by interaction and networking with local physicians.
Qualifications:• Must be a Medical Doctor with license in good standing by the State of Florida. • Must have demonstrated work experience in health care related industries or areas which are translatable to Hospice. • Willing to prepare for, and meet the requirements for eligibility for the American Academy of Hospice Physicians Palliative Care certification and exam within 2 years. • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License, maintain current auto insurance coverage and have access to a reliable automobile.
