celebrated her 106th birthday on hospice this year. With cake, balloons and good wishes, her 103-year-sister performed the honors.
Cardiovascular disease and dementia didn’t dampen her spirits or her enjoyment of her daily coffee and pepparkor, a traditional Swedish ginger cookie that reminded her of home. Her hospice caregivers made sure her cookie supply never ran dry. Sometimes it’s the little things that make life extra sweet and savory.
found solace sitting in the gazebo at the Memorial Park. Inside Estelle’s House next door as her two-month old son Josh was dying. One day, she was spotted cradling her baby on a bench inside the gazebo. “Is it okay if we just sit here?” she asked a worker. Of course, that’s what the park is for was the reply. “I just wanted him to be in the sunshine one time in his life. He has never been outdoors until today.” Imagine what that moment meant to this young mother—now a memory she will cherish forever.
Brigadier General Charles Keaten
was 90 years old and still smiling the day he was the recipient of Hospice of Marion County’s Veterans Recognition ceremony. Even as death approached, Gen. Keaten was remembering others as part of his ongoing support for disabled veterans and the national Wounded Warrior project. The U.S. loses 1,000 military men and women from the Greatest Generation every year.
Remember those brave people whose lives mean so much. Your gift makes a difference to so many others.
