Hospice of Marion County Celebrates Volunteers
at Annual Awards Luncheon
(Ocala, FL – April 10, 2019)
Hospice of Marion County (HMC) celebrated its volunteer support to kick off National Volunteer Week with an Awards and Recognition Luncheon on Friday, April 5 at the Klein Center on the campus of College of Central Florida.
HMC’s CEO Rick Bourne greeted volunteers and opened the celebration summarizing the vital role of volunteers across the organization. Volunteer contributions enabled exceptional compassionate care to over 3,400 patients last year.
Volunteers were recognized for Years of Service, Lifetime Hours, or Hours Served in 2018. The awards were presented by HMC CEO Rick Bourne, right, and Diana Holder, past chairman of the HMC Board of Directors, left.
Years of Service Awards:
- Phyllis Low of Silver Springs Shores was recognized for 25 years of service. She has long been volunteering for our special events and also loves to bake for Hospice of Marion County.
- Janet Smith of Marion Landing in Ocala was recognized for 20 years of service. She has been devoted to the Belleview Hospice Thrift Store, serving faithfully for 20 years.
- Esther Folsom of East Ocala (pictured above) was recognized for 20 years of service, and she volunteers at our Six Gun Plaza Hospice Thrift Store.
- Evelyn Walker of Belleview was recognized for 20 years of service and volunteers visiting patients at our hospice houses.
Volunteers were also recognized who reached 5, 10, or 15 years of service.
Hours of Service in 2018 Awards:
The President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award for at least 500 hours in 2018 was presented to 12 volunteers. Bob Levenson of The Villages was recognized for the most volunteer hours in 2018 as he provided 1,198 hours in Philanthropy, Community Outreach, Veterans Recognition and other support roles.
Other recipients included: Ann Roberts, Janet Bailey, Isy Villoria, Joan Rizzo, Penny Berrill, Phyllis Altonn, Mary Ann Adkison, Nancy Darrow, Reba Simpson, Saundra Ragotskie and Sharon Rinschler
Outstanding Volunteer for 2018:
The highlight of the afternoon was the announcement of the Outstanding Volunteer for 2018 which was awarded to Esther Folsom of East Ocala. She volunteers at the Six Gun Plaza Hospice Thrift Store where she cashiers and helps with displays.
