Volunteers at Our Hospice Houses

Hospice of Marion County operates three full service Hospice Houses located conveniently throughout the county. They provident routine care as well as care for high acuity patients. These facilities are warm, homelike environments with private rooms, lovely gathering rooms with fireplaces and serene gardens. Volunteers may give their time and care in a number of ways as:

  • Greeters – a friendly face to welcome and support family members,
  • Patients visitors – patients who need a comforting presence or a listening ear
  • Assistants to the kitchen staff
  • Telephone phone answerers

11th Hour Vigil volunteers sit bedside with patients who do not have a family member to be with them in their final hours. These visitors receive specialized training and sign up for four-hour shifts around the clock as requested by the social worker.

Other special patient visits in the Hospice Houses include:

  • veterans’ recognition ceremonies
  • pet visits
  • music visits
  • comforting touch therapy
